May 2012 Meeting Highlights

Our new president Audrey reviewed our successful quilt show.
The various committees reported their success and suggestions for future quilt shows.
Our out going president is seem below receiving her presidents blocks, all made by the guild members.
She is to have her quilt completed within two years.  I don't know do you think she can make the deadline?

One again we had a very success full afternoon of sewing.
We complete several quilt tops.
The old Italian blocks were sewn together.

Q
The scrappy stars was stretched and pinned and is waiting for someone to take it home and do some quilting magic.
And here is the pin wheel quilt top finished.
Past president Lorna completed her president's blocks quilt.

Sandra volunteered to demonstrate our next comfort block for June and July.  This is the first part of a more complex block.  Jewel tones is the requested colour.

Rae's Challenge Blocks

Below is a selection of Rae's Challenge quilts that were donated to the Flin Flon General Hospital's Cancer Unit
Great work fellow quilters!

This quilt was donated to the Cranberry Firemen for their rescue vehicle.

And once again the quilts keep coming in.  Below are three more ladies displaying their contributions to the challenge.

Now for my favourite part of this blog.  The show and tell!

Happy Quilting

Judy Niemeyer Workshop

We have now booked Michele from Mami's Country Quilts in Duck Lake SK to do a two day Judy Niemeyer workshop at the church on Friday September 14 and Saturday September 15.  The pattern for the class is called Island Sunset and can be seen in the photo above. It is a great beginner pattern and Michele would be happy to put a kit together for you with fabric and the pattern for $125.
Michele has asked that there be a limit in class size to 12 people so we will be asking for a deposit of $40 when you sign up for the class at the May evening meeting.  We will also have a waiting list if the class fills up quickly.  The cost of the class will be based on participation. If we have 12 people will be $67 per person, if we only get 8 participating then the amount will be up to $100. I don't think we will have a problem filling up the class.
It will be a first come first serve sign up and if there is more interested then we can always arrange for a second class.  If the sign up for the class does not reach 12 then we will have it open again at the June meeting.
We have never done a class with limited space before so we can have discussion a the meeting on how to handle this situation so that anyone who wants to participate is not left out.

Quilting With Friends Premier Retreat

This winter the ladies from ourGuild were invited to join other quilters from the north in a quilt retreat and workshop
The workshop was Chop-A-Block
by Marie Minaudier from St. Claude, Manitoba
Seven ladies from our guild joined Twenty one ladies from Flin Flon, Cranberry Portage, Wanless, and The Pas.
We all arrived Friday afternoon in time for our evening meal.  The sewing machines were set up and the sewing began.
We sewed late into the evening on both Friday and Saturday.

There was a lot of visiting, exchanging stories and ideas, and a large Show and Tell on Saturday evening.
Bakers Narrows lodge cooked meals and snacks, and we ate and ate, sewed and visited some more.
Until Sunday after lunch we packed up our machines and projects, but not before one last show and
tell outside of the lodge.

And while we were enjoying our weekend, mother nature was creating her own palette of colour and interest.
The sun rose on saturday morning to a lake almost thawed.
The Ducks and Loons were quacking, calling, and pairing up.
The frogs were singing.

And the Crocus Flowers are coming up.
Hooray, Spring has arrived in the north.

Happy Quilting!
and Happy Spring!!
