Meeting Highlights for May 27th

Tuesday was a beautiful sunny day, and we were inside working on sunny fabric. These are the quilt tops we worked on during the day. That uses up all the sixteen patch blocks our members sewed and donated to the guild. The evening business portion of the meeting was spent reviewing our April quilt show and receiving reports from the various committees. We felt our show was an overall success. A big hand of applause to all the volunteers who worked so hard to make it a success.

In the photo below you will see our happy CQA Rosette Winners for Best Of Show. Alene with her hand quilted log cabin, and Adele with her lovely snowman quilt. Alene also won our Viewers Choice Award with her log cabin quilt.

The Round Robin showing is always very exciting. Our challenge was to either make the item a square or a rectangle. How do you think we did?

We have a new comfort square for the next two months. The pattern is available at Faktor's. We are making 6 1/2 inch friendship stars. Bright coloured stars with white and black or black and white background.

We are going to sell raffle tickets on our Canadianna Quilt for a couple of weeks during homecoming this June and July. We are not asking our members to take a book of tickets home, but if Marg phones you to come out and sell tickets on Main Street or at Extra Foods, please consider volunteering a couple hours of your time. We think the extra funds would be very nice to purchase fabric for our comfort quilts.

Happy Quilting!

Dreaming of Bears and Geese

The North Star Quilt Guild created a quilt that celebrates our northern roots and our close relationship with nature. The name of our quilt comes from the use of the traditional Bear Paw and Flying Geese blocks that form the quilt top. Guild members spent many hours piecing then ripping stitches then piecing again to get the design just right. The quilting designs represent our northern wilderness and the natural elements that surround us. Follow the bear as he moves through a day, as shown by the traveling sun and the dancing northern lights. Geese fly toward the woven center with winds swirling beside. In the outer border eagles soar and catch their prey that inhabit our northern lakes.

We hope you enjoy our interpretation of our northern community.

Highlights of the April 2008 Meeting

The meeting highlights are a little late this month, but I will try and cover what I remember.

We spent the day getting ready for the big quilt show. We got a quilt to the basting stage for the frame on the stage, and we partly assembled a quilt to show one in progress. Kathy had to watch the sewing crew that day, as we all wanted to continue on and complete the quilt top.

The meeting that evening covered every one's jobs for the quilt show.

The list of the new executive was presented as follows:

Past President Evelyn B
President - Lorna H
Vice President - Kathy S
Secretary, Eileen M
Treasurer - ?

Committee Chairs

Membership - Raye W and Yvonne H
Programs - Marg F and Lori S
Cookies - Robin M
Blog - Sandra D
Special Events - Rae B
Comfort Quilts - Marg H

Of course we presented the next level of our round robin. We were to emphasize the existing shape. What do you think? I think they all look just great.

' Here is our Past President Rae showing off her completed Past President's quilt.
This is a lovely photo of our 2008 Quilt of Comfort and Remembrance.

Here is an interesting link. The CQA has posted all of their Trend Tex competition quilts on line for the 2008 Quilt Conference in Newfoundland. Even if you are not interested in the conference, go to this link just to enjoy the 100 plus quilts.
